This is the recap video I made that shows some of the highlights of the year for Sun Valley Community Church. It took a very long time for the different ministries to get me resources, but I think this is one of the better ways to show media that is mixed in resolution, and has SD and HD video.

I used Motion 4 to build the grid and animate the camera, and Final Cut to trim the video clips and do the final audio mixing.

This is the recap I made for Sun Valley Community Church highlighting all of the things that went on on Serve Sunday. I used the original branding that said Don’t Go To Church and modified it using the word Church as an image mask for all of the streams. I made the streams in Final Cut Pro using pictures and video that my wife and I took on the actual day. Great video celebrating a great event.

I was hired over the weekend by Skona Advertising to do a short demo for a pitch that they were doing for a client. My understanding is that it is a cross promotional utilizing a lot of different things including a mini site which is what is highlighted at the end.

Series of informational videos that I recently wrapped up for Unlocking.com. They simply provide people with unlocking codes for phones and wanted me to edit together their existing footage. They did a great job shooting, but I needed to take out some stuff on the table and make the background a bit more uniform. Turned out pretty clean.

Until a week ago, my wife’s photography business and my video editing business shared the same 10x12 bedroom. It was chaos. I helped her move out to the front room so she could have a better reception area for ordering sessions and the like leaving me with a gaping hole in the space and wires hanging everywhere.

Sun Valley Community Church is starting a new series called Joe Goes Country on September 11th. It is country themed which is a big shift for all of us.
For this teaser I wanted to keep it really simple so I used a template from MotionVFX and did some modifications like backgrounds and positioning of the spinning wheel.
The background picture is the same one used in the series branding and I added the series name and tagline to the bottom of each of the photo frames. Other than that, it was pretty simple to come up with some text make them in Photoshop and drop them in. Once I got it into Final Cut Pro, I did some speed changes so that different slides would be easier to read.
The music is called Electric Guitar Country and is a royalty free music bed that comes with Soundtrack Pro.

This is the new version of the Come Grow Serve Go section of RealTime. I used a template from motionvfx and modified it not only with our own text and some color to direct the eye, but also redid some of the text plates adding some and changing the way the paths at the end moved into that dot.

Last week I worked on creating a new look for my video production company. Studio10.J is kind of what I have been using for about three years and it looked grunge and really cool. I decided it needed an update to a more smooth contemporary look. I messed with the fonts and styling in Photoshop and then did the animation in Final Cut Pro. Eventually this would be part of a 30 second promotion piece that summarizes what I do, but for now it will just adorn the beginning and end of appropriate videos.

Non-profit organization needed a promotional dvd to show to potential donors. The finished product has been shown to the then Governor of Indiana, the Indiana Senate and helped Housing Opportunities of Warsaw become a United Way partner and receive additional funding opportunities.

This is my first posting of RealTime. RealTime is a weekly video segment that is produced for Sun Valley Community Church. It is played before every service and the announcements change on a weekly basis. There are different hosts, it is filmed two weeks at a time every other week and then edited together the week that it will play to allow last minute changes to details.

The filming is done by someone else, but most of the graphical elements that are not actual logos are done the week of and change with the announcements. Over the next few months I will be trying to make the transition to HD and spice up the presentation a bit. There will be more postings of this ongoing assignment so that the change can be chronicled.

This video was the intro transition video for a weekend message series called It’s All About U. The U consists of dozens of unique streams of people built in 3-D and then animated. There are seven different camera angles and a dozen or so light sources of different colors combining to give great shadow and light over the changing surface. It took all three computers that I have three days to render the camera angles, but I love the way it turned out when it was all set to the music.

This was a really fun video to make, because I got to play one of my favorite games in the process. We were doing a series at church called Drive and one of the messages was called TRKSHN. This made me think of drift mode in Need For Speed Underground 2 so I ran through the drift courses with a couple of cars and recorded it into Final Cut Pro. The graphical effect was inspired by the intro to Burnout 3 and the pieces were made in Photoshop. It took a lot of keyframing and sequence nesting get the final video looking the way I wanted.

A local water company wanted to bring their installation manual to life. We set up some false cabinets with pipes and filmed the installation process, then got the voice over done by a former radio DJ. The animation I built in Photoshop and then brought to life in Final Cut Pro.

As part of the interview process for a video production position at jobing.com I was asked to make a sample video that would showcase my skills. My second submission was for a fictional company that did play testing for video games. I enlisted a couple high school boys that I mentor and filmed them playing and did screen capture of the gameplay itself. My friend Mike was a good sport and let me film him standing in as the owner of the company.

This video was an assignment from the New York Film Academy. The project was to take the techniques that we had learned in the previous weeks and apply them. We were given 2 GB of stock footage that some professors had taken abroad and told to have fun. I had learned about compositing and nesting of sequences, so I found a song that had a cool message and worked the footage to match. I used only Final Cut Pro.

This video was an intro for a series about diving in to responsibility. Another church had done a video similar, in their version they went to a waterpark in their suits and ties, so our church did the next best thing and jumped into a pool. I took their footage and made it something a little bit off the wall. The colors and reverse is not something that I usually do, but this was a unique opportunity to let loose with the stuff that I don’t usually get to do.
